Motor-driven roller’s (MDR) unique square design features welded steel construction for high torque output and hefty load capacity.
WILSONVILLE, OR (December 8, 2016) — Engineered with a 2.5-inch square shell specifically to accommodate Intralox’s Series 900 6.1-inch (18T sprocket tooth configuration) natural acetal square bore sprocket-driven belts, the SmartRoller® Square Shell Motorized Roller has debuted. Internally powered, the motor-driven rollers (MDR) are designed, engineered and manufactured by Holjeron, a part of Matthews Automation Solutions.
Although it has many potential conveyor applications, the Square Bore Sprocket SmartRoller was created to fill a need within the tire manufacturing industry, explains John Mosher, Holjeron’s Manager of OEM business development.
“The Intralox Series 900 belt line is widely used on conveyors to move uncured, or green, tires of any size as they exit a tire-building machine (TBM) and travel to the curing molds,” he notes. “Because of the belts’ open grid and slat-component construction, very little of their surface comes in contact with the soft, sticky tires, easily releasing the rubber at the end of the zone. That prevents tire deformation caused by adhesion to the conveyor.”
“Holjeron’s Square Bore Sprocket SmartRoller is a significantly less expensive, standardized alternative to rollers from other manufacturers,” he continues. “Ours are built to order and readily available, with delivery lead times of 10 days or less. They are also rated for higher temperatures and longer lifespans than competitive units.”
Because the Square Bore Sprocket SmartRoller engages the sprocket on all four sides of the square bore, it is capable of conveying loads high torque output ratings (gearbox dependent). It supports a wide variety of speed ranges, including recommended linear speeds up to 300 feet-per-minute (or higher). For maintenance-free operation, it incorporates a 24-volt direct current (VDC) brushless, high-torque motor and permanently lubricated planetary gear reduction drive.
Engineered for 24 VDC conveyor systems, the unit features welded steel construction over a heavy-duty galvanized steel roller base. It is rated for 25,000-hour operational life, and powder coated black to prevent rust and corrosion, making it ideal for high-humidity applications. Other highlights include a robust, all-metal gearbox; heavy-duty transmission disc design; and precision, double ball bearings that conform to Annular Bearing Engineering Committee (ABEC) tolerance standards. The Square Bore Sprocket SmartRoller is also fully compatible with Holjeron’s line of ZoneLink3® controllers.
