MODEX 2018: New ZoneLinkTC™ Motorized Conveyor Controller is Scalable, Flexible and Runs in Standalone Mode

Holjeron’s newest zone controller—on display in MODEX Booth B3763—supports multiple connectivity and configuration parameters for complete input/output access, control, diagnostics and intervention.

WILSONVILLE, OR (March 17, 2018) — Scalable, flexible and offering a wide range of powerful connectivity and control capabilities, Holjeron’s introduces the new ZoneLinkTC™ controller for motorized roller conveyors. This versatile system controls Microroller® Distribution LLC’s SmartRoller® and Microroller® brands of motor-driven rollers (MDR), as well as Interroll’s 6- and 8-pole conveyor motors. The device is on display in Matthews Automation Solutions’ Booth B3763 at MODEX; the MHI-sponsored show will take place in Atlanta’s Georgia World Congress Center, April 9–12, 2018.

One of the biggest benefits of the controller is its ability to operate in a standalone mode—no supervisory programmable logic controller (PLC) or computer required, says Chad Velk, Holjeron’s Product Manager for OEM Solutions. “We’ve engineered the ZoneLinkTC to enable traditional zero-pressure accumulation (ZPA) operation, train/release or configurable zone parameters with minimal human intervention. Its smart capabilities accommodate multiple device connections and control directly on the device, making it easier and faster to commission a new conveyor system, or to make modifications to an existing line,” he notes.

Through an integrated, LED-display user interface with a scrolling menu of configuration items, the new device can be programmed to control everything from transport mode to MDR type, roller rotation, direction of flow and more. Faults and warnings are displayed and parameter status is available for operational conditions such as photo status, motor current, operating hours and more.

Further, the device is outfitted with two user-configurable input/output (I/O) ports that enable direct connections from other components—such as pushbuttons and light stacks—to the PLC. Via the ZoneLinkTC controller’s EtherNet/IP gateway connection, the device can communicate with either PLCs or computers for complete I/O access, control, diagnostics and intervention. The gateway connection supports two fieldbus networks of up to 32 zones each, reducing the number of IP addresses and associated hardware required while providing expansive I/O control.

When connected to SmartRollers, the ZoneLinkTC can determine wattage, speed range and operating hours, as well as automatically configure them for operation. This also allows for setting the speed in feet-per-minute, eliminating the need to calculate the setting manually using the motor’s revolutions per minute (RPM) and gearbox ratio data.
